Cascade Pest Control celebrated its 47th year in business on the 1st of April this year (2026).
From humble beginnings…
From humble beginnings working from home in 1979, working from his car, Kurt Treftz started servicing people’s homes and providing Wood-Destroying Organism reports (aka “Termite Reports”) for home sales.
Our pest services started in Redmond, Washington when Microsoft was only a few years old. The “Silicone Forest” was about to boom and we were there to service all the new homes that were being built for the expansion of that area.
Thankfully, folks had the insight to leave “green-belts” of land between tracts of homes, which continues to provide natural habitat to this day for deer and other wildlife.
However healthy forests recycle themselves and both termites and carpenter ants are crucial to the process. And now these homes were being built right next to thriving, mature carpenter ant colonies who recognize wood-framed construction ideal for their peripheral nest sites – the parent nest site associated with more moisture and housing the queen.
In 1979 the rat population was fairly confined to cities along the Puget Sound shoreline, like Tacoma and Seattle. But as the smaller towns grew and suburbia sprawled, the rats eventually spread. Today rats are the biggest pest problem in the greater Seattle/Puget Sound region.
Cascade Pest Control today…
Carpenter ants are still a problem, although “sugar ants” (odorous house ants) have taken over as the worse ant pest. And there are a number of other pests, spiders and wasps among them.
Cascade has grown in fits and starts, and sometimes in leaps and bounds over the 47 years. Today Cascade Pest Control is present in both the states of Washington and Idaho:
- In Washington, we provide pest & rodent control services in the Greater Seattle/Puget Sound region.
- In Idaho, we provide pest & rodent control services in Greater Boise/Treasure Valley area.
We are particularly proud of our present team of employees, from pest management technicians, highly trained office staff, and our sharp managers. Everyone is dedicated to customer service, as well as the respect they show each other to support such customer service.
Cascade Pest Control takes our pest management profession seriously, yet we know how to have some fun and to have a sense of humor about some of the things we encounter every day.
