Nuisance Wildlife Control / Management

Author: Kurt Treftz, Cascade Pest Control

Nuisance Wildlife Control – particularly the control of Squirrels, Raccoons and Opossum – is a 4-Step process.

Omitting one of the first three steps means the animals are likely to return. Omitting the fourth means you have a filthy mess with disease pathogens, damage to your home’s insulation and a barrier to selling your home in the future.

You need all four steps to solve your pest-animal problem and the problems they’ve caused…and to keep it solved for good.

Step 1 – Nuisance Wildlife Inspection

When nuisance wildlife take over our attic spaces, substructure crawlspaces or other areas (under decks, hot tubs, sheds, etc.) they are in survival mode and become aggressive, tenacious and secretive.

They shred insulation and other building materials for their nests then “mark their territories” and fully defend those territories.

So, first, you need a qualified and experienced inspector to determine details of infestation – such as entry points, nest sites, damage and more. A fully detailed report is provided that lays out the necessary steps in providing full nuisance wildlife control, decontamination, structural restoration, and nuisance wildlife management for future protection of your home.

Step 2 – Professional, Humane Animal Trapping

We work in close association with a Washington State Licensed Wildlife Trapper who has many years of experience with a wide variety of nuisance wildlife animals. He captures the animals live and removes them from the premises.

Step 3 – Nuisance Wildlife Exclusion

An essential part of nuisance wildlife control management is ‘exclusion’. Nuisance wildlife ‘exclusion’ is simply the methods used for excluding these pests from your property and the prevention of future infestations.

Entry points are repaired and sealed – whether on the roof (at roof adjoinments & eaves), loose fitting doors, broken foundation vents, burrows in the soil – or numerous other locations. Other locations that are especially vulnerable are addressed.

This step is insurance against a re-infestation from the nuisance wildlife population in the neighborhood. Also, a careful check is made to verify trapping success and population removal.

Step 4 – Nuisance Wildlife Decontamination & Restoration

Nuisance wildlife animal droppings and other contamination pose a health hazard. Damage to the structure or insulation is a common occurrence that requires immediate attention. And you certainly don’t want these problems to appear on a home inspection when it comes time to sell your home in the future.

Nuisance wildlife animal droppings are removed. Damaged insulation is removed & replaced. Other damages repaired. Surfaces are sanitized and a deodorant applied. For insulation, attic, crawlspace damages, Cascade works closely with allied attic/crawlspace cleaning & restoration companies for repair or replacement.
